Created in December 2008, the Kids Reading to Succeed (KRS) literacy program uses reading as an educational platform to empower the youth of Pasadena. KRS' mission is to partner with local non-profit organizations, community programs, and schools in Pasadena to collaborate on long-term literacy projects which will not only instill a love of reading in our youth but also help them use literacy as a tool to succeed in school and beyond. Students are paired with volunteers to read the predetermined book of the month on a one on one basis. After the short read, students and volunteers are gathered to create art projects together. This month's guest reader is Pasadena Mayor Bill Bogaard. Please note, you must RSVP for the event in order to be a reader. Please visit http://www.kidsreadingtosucceed.org for more information. |
