The Pasadena Jaycees plan an annual party for the children of Five Acres foster home in Altadena.
The committee plans arts & crafts, sports and water games complete with a slip-n-slide to entertain the children on a summer morning. The children then enjoy lunch, which is usually donated by a local restaurant, along with popcorn and snow cones.
Five Acres, originally founded in 1888, is a non-profit child and family services agency that strengthens families and prevents child abuse through treatment and education in community-based and residential programs. Services include residential care and educational, mental health services in homes and schools, foster care and adoptions, and domestic violence prevention.
The Pasadena Jaycees strive to make these parties a positive, fun-filled event for the children at Five Acres and were bestowed the 2013 Special Services to Children Award from the Organization.
